Getting Around Attu
Getting to and from Attu changes with the seasons.
Winter Travel
During winter, people travel by helicopter. Air Greenland provides these flights. Helicopters fly from Attu Heliport to bigger towns. These include Aasiaat Airport and Kangaatsiaq Heliport. These special flights only happen in winter and spring.
Summer Travel
In summer and autumn, the water around Attu melts. This makes it possible to travel by boat. A ferry service called Diskoline connects Attu to other towns. The ferry links Attu with Kangaatsiaq. It also goes to Iginniarfik, Ikerasaarsuk, Niaqornaarsuk, and Aasiaat.
Attu's Population
The number of people living in Attu has gone down a lot. This has happened over many years. Since 1990, the town has lost about 36% of its people. From 2000, it has lost more than a quarter. The population is still getting smaller.
