Aubrey Eugene Robinson Jr. (March 30, 1922 – February 27, 2000) was an important American judge. He served for many years in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Early Life and Education

Aubrey Eugene Robinson Jr. was born on March 30, 1922, in Madison, New Jersey. He attended Cornell University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1943. After college, he served in the United States Army until 1946. He then went on to study law at Cornell Law School, receiving his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1947.

Legal Career Before Becoming a Judge

After finishing law school, Robinson worked as a private lawyer in Washington, D.C.. He did this from 1948 to 1965. A private lawyer works for individuals or companies. From 1965 to 1966, he served as an associate judge. He worked in the Juvenile Court of the District of Columbia. This court handles cases involving young people. He also taught at American University as a professor from 1975 to 1983.

Federal Judicial Service

On October 6, 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson chose Aubrey Robinson to become a federal judge. He was nominated for a seat on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. The United States Senate approved his nomination on October 20, 1966. He officially became a judge on November 3, 1966.

Leadership Role as Chief Judge

Judge Robinson served as a judge for many years. From 1982 to 1992, he held the important position of Chief Judge. The Chief Judge oversees the court's operations. They manage the court's schedule and staff. On March 1, 1992, he took on senior status. This means he continued to work as a judge but with a reduced caseload. He served in this role until his death.

Important Cases Handled by Judge Robinson

During his time as a judge, Aubrey Robinson handled many significant cases. One notable case involved the families of victims from Korean Air Lines Flight 007. He decided that the families should receive money for their losses. This decision was later reviewed by a higher court.

He also sentenced Jonathan Pollard in 1987. Pollard was accused of sharing important national security information. Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger said this action caused great harm to American security. Judge Robinson gave Pollard a life sentence.

Death

Aubrey Eugene Robinson Jr. passed away on February 27, 2000. He was 77 years old. He died from a heart attack at his home in Washington, D.C..
