Auburn, Colorado facts for kids
Auburn is a small community in Weld County, Colorado, United States. It's not a city with its own government, but a quiet area about five miles southeast of Greeley.
Back in the 1960s, Auburn was mostly a farming community. It didn't have its own shops or a post office. Many families living there had come from other countries, like Germany (often German-Russians), Mexico, and Sweden. They went to churches in nearby towns like Greeley, Gilcrest, and Platteville.
A very sad event happened in Auburn on December 14, 1961. A passenger train called the "City of Denver" crashed into a school bus. This accident was the worst traffic accident in Colorado's history.

How Schools Changed in Auburn
For many years, Auburn had its own school district and a small school building. This school was located at the corner of Weld County Roads 47 and 54.
In the mid-1950s, a study by the state government suggested that Colorado's school districts should be reorganized. This meant combining many smaller districts into larger ones. Between 1956 and 1961, almost 700 school districts in Colorado closed down. This left only 275 open across the entire state.
Because of these changes, many small schools, including the one in Auburn, closed. Starting in 1961, children from Auburn began going to schools in Greeley. At that time, they went to Delta Elementary School, Meeker Junior High School, and Greeley High School. The original Auburn and Delta schools no longer exist today.
