Working at NPR

In January 2012, Cornish moved to co-host All Things Considered. This was a big change, especially during the 2012 election year. Another host, Michele Norris, stepped down because her husband was working on the Obama re-election campaign. In 2013, NPR announced that Cornish would stay as a permanent host of All Things Considered.

In August 2017, Audie Cornish took time off from NPR for maternity leave. During this time, she wrote occasional interviews for The New York Times Magazine. All Things Considered is a very popular show. It reaches about 14 million listeners every week.

After leaving NPR in early 2022, Cornish shared her excitement. She said she looked forward to new ways to tell stories. She also wanted to keep giving a voice to people who are often not heard. On January 10, 2022, it was announced that she joined CNN+. She hosted a weekly show there.

On November 17, 2022, her weekly podcast The Assignment with Audie Cornish started. This podcast helps listeners understand different viewpoints. It features people who are directly involved in the news. In 2023, The Assignment won the "Best Interview Podcast" award at the Ambies.
