Audrey Ann Wells (born Lederer; January 29, 1960 – October 4, 2018) was an American screenwriter, film director, and producer. She wrote stories for movies and also directed some of them. Her 1999 film Guinevere won a special award for screenwriting called the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.

Audrey Wells' Early Life
Audrey Wells was born in San Francisco, California. Her parents were Wolfgang Lederer and Alexandra Botwin Lederer. Her father was a psychiatrist and her mother was a psychologist. They both came from Europe and had to leave during World War II.
Audrey Wells' Career in Film
Before working in movies, Audrey Wells was a disc jockey at a jazz radio station in San Francisco. She went to college at U.C. Berkeley and then at UCLA.
Audrey wrote many successful movie scripts. She also directed three films that she had written herself. Most of her movies were either comedies or romance films. Some of her well-known films include The Truth About Cats & Dogs (1996) and Under the Tuscan Sun (2003). She also helped produce both of these movies.
In 1999, her film Guinevere received the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. This was a special honor given at the Sundance Film Festival. She also helped write the script for the comedy movie The Game Plan.
Audrey Wells' Later Years and Legacy
Audrey Wells passed away on October 4, 2018, after battling cancer. A movie she wrote, The Hate U Give, was released just one day after her death. She is remembered by her husband and her daughter.
She also wrote the script for the animated movie Over the Moon, which came out in 2020 on Netflix. This film was dedicated to her memory.
