Augusta is a small place in Carver County, Minnesota, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government.
Augusta is located right on the edge where two areas called Laketown Township and Dahlgren Township meet. You can usually find the center of Augusta near where Carver County Roads 43 and 10 (also called Engler Boulevard) cross. Some towns close by include Chaska and Waconia.
History of Augusta
How Augusta Got Its Name
The area that is now Augusta has a cool history! It started out with a different name.
In 1861, a post office was set up here, and it was called Oberles Corners. A post office is where people send and receive mail.
Later, in 1883, the name of the community was changed to Augusta. This new name was chosen to honor a special person: Augusta Poppitz. She was the wife of Ernst Poppitz, who was one of the very first settlers to live in this area.
The post office in Augusta continued to serve the community for many years, but it eventually closed down in 1911. Even though the post office is gone, the name Augusta has stuck around!
