Augustin D. Flanagan (born August 10, 1844 – died January 22, 1924) was an American soldier. He fought bravely in the American Civil War. For his amazing courage, he received the Medal of Honor. This is the highest award for bravery in the United States. He earned it for his actions during the Battle of Chaffin's Farm in Virginia. This happened on September 29, 1864. He received the award on April 6, 1865.
Life and Service
Augustin D. Flanagan was born in Loretto, Pennsylvania on August 10, 1844. When he was older, he joined the army. He became part of the 55th Pennsylvania Infantry. This was a group of soldiers from his home state.
He served as a Sergeant during the American Civil War. This was a very important time in American history. He showed great bravery during the Battle of Chaffin's Farm. This battle took place in Virginia in 1864.
Sergeant Flanagan passed away on January 22, 1924. He was 79 years old. His final resting place is at the Tecumseh Cemetery in Nebraska.
