Augusto Céspedes Patzi (born February 6, 1904, in Cochabamba – died May 9, 1997, in La Paz) was an important person from Bolivia. He was a talented writer, a smart politician, a diplomat who represented his country, and a journalist.

Augusto Céspedes' Life and Work

Augusto Céspedes studied law in the city of La Paz, where he earned his degree. He was very interested in politics from a young age.

Starting in Politics

In 1927, Augusto Céspedes helped start the Nationalist Party. Later, he became a key leader in the Revolutionary Nationalist Movement (MNR). This was a political group that wanted to bring big changes to Bolivia.

A Journalist During Wartime

Céspedes also worked as a journalist. He reported from the front lines during the Chaco War. This was a conflict between Bolivia and Paraguay. He wrote for a newspaper called El Universal. His reports were so important that they were later collected into a book. The book was called Crónicas heroicas de una guerra estúpida, which means Heroic Chronicles of a Stupid War. It was published in 1975.

He also helped start a daily newspaper for the MNR party called La Calle. Later, he directed another newspaper in La Paz called La Nación.

Serving as a Politician and Diplomat

Augusto Céspedes was elected as a deputy in Bolivia's government three times. A deputy is like a representative who helps make laws. He served in 1938, 1944, and 1956.

He also worked as a diplomat, representing Bolivia in other countries. He was Bolivia's Ambassador to Paraguay in 1945. Later, in 1953, he became the Ambassador to Italy. He was also known for his work as Ambassador to UNESCO, which is a part of the United Nations that focuses on education, science, and culture.
