Augusto Armando Polo Campos (born February 25, 1932 – died January 17, 2018) was a famous Peruvian composer. He wrote many popular songs that show the unique spirit and rich culture of Peru. His music is loved for its beautiful melodies and meaningful words.
The Life of Augusto Polo Campos
Augusto Polo Campos was born in a town called Puquio, in Peru. Many people think he was one of the greatest Peruvian composers ever.
When he was very young, in 1933, his family moved to Lima, the capital city of Peru. They lived in a historic area called Rímac. From an early age, Augusto loved to create poems and rhymes. He had a special talent for putting words together.
His home was often filled with artists and singers who enjoyed dancing and singing Peruvian music. This lively atmosphere greatly inspired young Augusto. It helped him become the successful composer whose songs are now a big part of Peruvian traditions.
Augusto Polo Campos never went to music school, and he didn't play any musical instruments. He taught himself everything! His amazing talent allowed him to create many beautiful songs. He even earned a Guinness World Record for writing a song in less than two minutes! One of his songs was even featured in a James Bond movie called Quantum of Solace.
Augusto Polo Campos had seven children: Carmen, Augusto, Selena, Marco, Giomar, Flor, and Cristovals.
One of his most famous songs is the vals "Regresa." This song became a number one hit around the world for the Peruvian singer Lucha Reyes. Later, a Peruvian electronic band called Madre Matilda also made it popular as an instrumental song. "Regresa" was also the title of an album by Los Violines de Lima in 1970.
