A Look Back: The History of Aultman
Aultman was named after someone who lived there. It was a busy enough place to have its own post office, which helped people send and receive mail, from 1896 until 1916.
Plans for a Bridge
In 1910, there were big plans for Aultman. It was supposed to be the spot for a new bridge over the Verde River. This bridge would have been part of a major highway for the Arizona Territory (Arizona wasn't a state yet!).
However, people in nearby Camp Verde wanted the bridge closer to their town. They signed a petition, which is like a formal request, to move the highway and bridge to Camp Verde instead. Their request was approved, and Camp Verde became the chosen spot for the bridge.
A Place for Voting
In the 1920s, the schoolhouse in Aultman was used for more than just learning. It also served as a "polling location." This is where people go to cast their votes in elections.
Population in 1940
By 1940, Aultman was a very small community. Its population was recorded as just 20 people.
