Austin Darren Daye (born June 5, 1988) is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for the New Taipei Kings in Taiwan. Austin is known for his skills as a Power forward.
He played college basketball for Gonzaga. After college, he was picked 15th overall in the 2009 NBA draft by the Detroit Pistons. Austin has played for several NBA teams, including the Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors, San Antonio Spurs, and Atlanta Hawks. He also played in Russia, Italy, and the NBA Development League.
A big moment in his career was winning an NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014. Later, with Umana Reyer Venezia in Italy, he won the Lega Basket Serie A championship in 2019 and the Italian Basketball Cup in 2020. He was even named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in both of those finals!

Austin Daye's Early Basketball Journey
Austin Daye started his basketball journey at Woodbridge High School in Irvine, California. He was a star player there. In his junior year (2005–06), he averaged 16 points and 9 rebounds per game. He was recognized as one of the best players in his area.
By his senior year (2006–07), Austin was amazing. He averaged almost 31 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 blocks per game! This made him the top scorer in Orange County. He was named Player of the Year for his league and division. Experts considered him a top recruit, ranking him among the best small forwards in the nation.
College Basketball at Gonzaga
Austin Daye chose to play college basketball for Gonzaga. In his first year, he showed great potential. He averaged 10.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He was named to the West Coast Conference (WCC) All-Freshman Team.
In his second year at Gonzaga, Austin continued to improve. He averaged 12.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He also blocked over 2 shots per game. After his sophomore season, in April 2009, Austin decided to enter the NBA draft. This meant he would skip his last two years of college.
Austin Daye's Professional Career
Austin Daye began his professional basketball career in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in 2009. He played for the Pistons for several seasons.
Playing in the NBA
After his time with the Pistons, Austin was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2013. Later that year, he joined the Toronto Raptors. In 2014, he moved to the San Antonio Spurs. This was a special time for him.
Winning an NBA Championship
With the San Antonio Spurs, Austin Daye achieved a major dream. He won an NBA championship in 2014! The Spurs defeated the Miami Heat in the finals. Even though he played limited minutes in the playoffs, he was part of a championship-winning team. After the Spurs, he also played briefly for the Atlanta Hawks.
Basketball Around the World
Austin Daye's career also took him to play basketball in other countries. In 2011, he played for Khimki in the Russian Professional Basketball League during an NBA lockout. He also spent some time in the NBA Development League (now G-League) with the Austin Toros and Erie BayHawks.
Success in Italy and Taiwan
Austin found great success playing in Italy. In 2015, he joined Victoria Libertas Pesaro. He was a top scorer there, averaging over 21 points per game. He was even selected for the Italian Serie A All-Star Game.
Later, he joined Umana Reyer Venezia in Italy. With this team, he won the FIBA Europe Cup championship in 2018. He also helped them win the Lega Basket Serie A championship in 2019. For his amazing performance, he was named the MVP of the LBA Finals. In 2020, he won the Italian Basketball Cup with Reyer Venezia and was named the MVP of that competition too!
After his successful time in Italy, Austin moved to Asia. He joined the New Taipei Kings in Taiwan in 2022. He returned to Victoria Libertas Pesaro briefly in 2023. In 2024, he re-signed with the New Taipei Kings, continuing his journey in the Taiwan Professional Basketball League.
