Austin Darren Daye is an American professional basketball player. He was born on June 5, 1988. Austin plays for the New Taipei Kings in the Taiwan Professional Basketball League (TPBL).
He played college basketball for Gonzaga. After college, the Detroit Pistons picked him 15th overall in the 2009 NBA draft. Austin has played for several NBA teams, including the Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors, San Antonio Spurs, and Atlanta Hawks. He also played in Russia and Italy.
Austin Daye won an NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014. He also achieved great success in Italy. With Umana Reyer Venezia, he won the Lega Basket Serie A championship in 2019. He also won the Italian Basketball Cup in 2020. Austin was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in both the 2019 LBA Finals and the 2020 Italian Basketball Cup finals.

High School Basketball Career
Austin Daye went to Woodbridge High School in Irvine, California. He played basketball there for coach John Halagan. In his junior year (2005–06), he averaged 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks per game. He was named to the All-CIF Southern Sectional Division II A first team.
In November 2006, Daye officially committed to play college basketball for Gonzaga.
During his senior year (2006–07), Austin Daye was amazing. He averaged 30.9 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 5.4 blocks per game. He was named the Sea View League Player of the Year. He was also the CIF-Southern Section Division I Player of the Year. Experts considered him a top player in the nation.
College Basketball Career
In his first year at Gonzaga, Austin Daye played very well. He was named to the WCC All-Freshman Team. He averaged 10.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in 33 games.
In his second year, Daye continued to impress. He earned All-WCC Honorable Mention honors again. He averaged 12.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game.
In April 2009, Austin Daye decided to enter the NBA draft. This meant he would not play his final two years of college basketball.
Professional Basketball Journey
Playing in the NBA (2009–2015)
The Detroit Pistons picked Austin Daye as the 15th overall player in the 2009 NBA draft. On August 7, 2009, he signed his first contract with the Pistons.
On January 30, 2013, Daye was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. This trade was part of a bigger deal involving several teams. At the time, some experts felt he had not reached his full potential.
On August 1, 2013, Daye signed with the Toronto Raptors.
On February 20, 2014, Daye was traded again, this time to the San Antonio Spurs. He joined the Spurs and became an NBA champion that year. The Spurs defeated the Miami Heat 4–1 in the NBA Finals. Daye played only a few minutes during the 2014 playoffs. On January 10, 2015, he scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. A week later, the Spurs released him.
On March 15, 2015, Daye signed a short contract with the Atlanta Hawks. He then signed another contract and later a multi-year deal. However, on July 9, 2015, the Hawks released him. On September 28, 2015, Daye signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he was released before the regular season started.

Playing in Russia (2011)
On September 23, 2011, Austin Daye signed a two-month contract with Khimki in the Russian Professional Basketball League. He returned to the Detroit Pistons in December 2011.
NBA Development League (2014, 2015)
On March 15, 2014, the San Antonio Spurs sent Daye to the Austin Toros in the NBA Development League. He played one game there before being called back to the Spurs.
On February 16, 2015, Daye joined the Erie BayHawks. He played 10 games with this team.
Playing in Italy (2015–2016)
On November 27, 2015, Daye moved to Italy to play in the Lega Basket Serie A. He signed with Consultinvest Pesaro. In 21 games during the 2015–16 season, he averaged 21.2 points and 9.0 rebounds. He was also chosen for the Italian Serie A All-Star Game.
Playing in Bahrain (2016)
On May 6, 2016, Daye signed with Manama Club in the Bahraini Premier League. He played for them in the 2016 GCC Basketball Clubs Championship.
The Basketball Tournament (2016, 2017)
Austin Daye played in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) in 2016 and 2017. This tournament is shown on ESPN. He played for Team Challenge ALS. In 2017, he averaged 13.3 points per game. He helped his team reach the championship game, where they lost a close game.
Playing in Turkey (2016–2017)
On June 30, 2016, Daye signed with Galatasaray Odeabank in Turkey for the 2016–17 season.
Playing in Israel (2017–2018)
On August 9, 2017, Daye signed with the Israeli team Hapoel Jerusalem. He played 19 games for them. On January 3, 2018, Daye left the team.
Return to Italy (2018–2022)
On January 29, 2018, Daye returned to Italy. He signed with Umana Reyer Venezia. On May 2, Daye won the FIBA Europe Cup championship with Reyer. He signed a two-year contract extension with the team on July 6, 2018.
In the 2018–19 season, Daye won his first Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) championship with Reyer. After winning the final series, Daye was named the LBA Finals MVP.
On February 16, 2020, Daye won his first Italian Cup with Reyer Venezia. He was named the MVP of the competition. In June 2020, Daye signed a new contract with Reyer Venezia that lasted until the 2022–23 season.
New Taipei Kings (2022–2023)
On November 16, 2022, it was announced that the New Taipei Kings of the P. League+ had signed Austin Daye.
Victoria Libertas Pesaro (2023)
On March 8, 2023, Daye signed again with Victoria Libertas Pesaro in Italy's Lega Basket Serie A (LBA).
New Taipei Kings (2024–Present)
On July 29, 2024, Austin Daye re-signed with the New Taipei Kings of the Taiwan Professional Basketball League (TPBL). He continues to play for them.
