Darren Keefe Daye (born November 30, 1960) is an American former professional basketball player. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa. Standing at 6 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 220 pounds, he played as a shooting guard and small forward.

Early Life and High School Career

Darren Daye played high school basketball at John F. Kennedy High School. This school is located in the Granada Hills area of Los Angeles.

Becoming a McDonald's All-American

In 1979, Daye was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the McDonald's All-American Game. This is a special game for the best high school basketball players in the country. Playing for the West team, Daye scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Even with his great performance, the West team lost the game by just one point.

College Basketball Journey

After high school, Daye continued his basketball career in college. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He played for the UCLA Bruins men's basketball team from 1979 to 1983.

Professional Basketball Career

Darren Daye began his professional basketball journey in 1983. He was chosen by the Washington Bullets in the third round of the 1983 NBA draft. He was the 57th player picked overall.

Playing in the NBA

Daye played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for five seasons. From 1983 to 1988, he played for three different teams. These teams were the Washington Bullets, the Chicago Bulls, and the Boston Celtics. His final NBA season was with the Celtics in 1987–88.

One of his most memorable games was in 1987. It was Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Milwaukee Bucks. Daye scored a crucial basket and made the winning free throws in the second overtime. This helped the Celtics win the game.

Playing Overseas

After his time in the NBA, Daye played basketball in other countries. He played in Italy, France, and Israel. He continued to play professionally overseas until he retired in 1997.

Personal Life and Family

Darren Daye has a son named Austin Daye. Austin also became a professional basketball player. He played college basketball for Gonzaga University.

Austin Daye's NBA Career

In 2009, Austin Daye was drafted 15th overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 2009 NBA draft. He later won an NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs. This happened in the 2014 NBA Finals, when the Spurs defeated the Miami Heat.
