Scientific classification

Avicularia minatrix, also known as the Red Slate Pink Toe, Redstripe Pinktoe, or Venezuelan Redstripe Tarantula, is a cool type of spider. It belongs to the Theraphosidae family, which means it's a tarantula! You can find this spider in countries like Venezuela and Brazil. It was first discovered by a scientist named Reginald Innes Pocock in 1903. This tarantula likes to live in trees and is quite shy. It's also the smallest tarantula in its group, the Avicularia genus.

Discovering the Redstripe Pinktoe

This section will tell you more about the Avicularia minatrix tarantula.

How Long Do They Live?

Female Avicularia minatrix tarantulas can live for a long time, usually between 10 to 12 years. Male tarantulas, however, have a shorter life. They typically live for only 2 to 3 years.

What Do They Look Like?

Both male and female Redstripe Pinktoe tarantulas have a similar look. They have a reddish-brown carapace, which is the hard shell covering their head and chest. Their legs are also reddish-brown with white sections between each part. This makes their legs look striped.

Their main body, called the opisthosoma, is black. On top of the opisthosoma, they have bright orange-reddish spots. These spots can stretch almost all the way to the bottom of their body.

Are They Easy to Find?

Avicularia minatrix tarantulas are quite rare to find for sale. This is partly because their egg sacks (where they keep their eggs) only produce a small number of babies. Each egg sack usually has about 20 to 40 eggs.

Behavior of the Redstripe Pinktoe

This section explains how Avicularia minatrix tarantulas act in their natural homes.

Do They Live Together?

Even though these tarantulas might tolerate being near each other, they are not really a "communal" species. This means they don't usually live together in big groups. They prefer to be on their own.

How Shy Are They?

The Redstripe Pinktoe tarantula is a very shy and reclusive species. If they notice you while they are out, they will quickly run back to their hiding spot. They prefer to stay hidden and out of sight.
