Avon is a small, unincorporated community located in Sainte Genevieve County, Missouri, United States. An unincorporated community means it doesn't have its own local government. It's about 20 miles southwest of the city of Ste. Genevieve.

The exact reason for Avon's name isn't fully known. However, some people think it might have been named by someone who really liked Shakespeare. They might have chosen the name from Shakespeare's famous hometown, Stratford-upon-Avon in England.
A Look Back at Avon's Past
Avon started as a place where people dug for lead. Miners used special furnaces to process the lead they found. This was a common activity in the area long ago.
A post office served the community of Avon for many years. It was open from 1849 until 1928. In 1925, records show that about 21 people lived in Avon.
