Avram Avie Glazer (born October 19, 1960) is an American businessman. He is part of the Glazer family. This family owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, an American football team. They also own a large part of the English football club Manchester United.
Early Life and School
Avram Avie Glazer was born on October 6, 1960. His hometown is Rochester, in a Jewish family. His father was Malcolm Glazer, a very rich businessman. His mother is Linda.
Avram has four brothers and one sister. Their names are Kevin, Bryan Glazer, Joel Glazer, Darcie, and Edward. He went to Pittsford Mendon High School. In 1978, he was named the Junior Achievement Outstanding Young Businessman Of The Year.
Avram went to Washington University in St. Louis. He earned a degree in Business Administration in 1982. Later, he studied law at Washington College of Law at American University. He also studied in China at Peking University and Fudan University.
His Career in Sports
Since 2005, Avram Glazer has been a top leader at Manchester United. He is the Executive Co-Chairman. Manchester United is one of the most famous sports teams in the world.
During his time, Manchester United has won many awards. They have won five Premier League titles. They also won the Champions League in 2008. Other wins include five League Cups and two FA Cups. They also won the FIFA Club World Cup.
In 2021, Manchester United was one of 12 clubs that tried to start a new league. This was called the European Super League. This plan did not go forward.
Avram Glazer has also owned the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since 1995. This is an NFL (American football) team. The Buccaneers have won two Super Bowls while the Glazers owned them. These were Super Bowl XXXVII and Super Bowl LV.
In December 2023, a new deal was made for Manchester United. Sir Jim Ratcliffe bought 25% of the club. This deal showed the club was worth about $6.3 billion.
Glazer also owns the Desert Vipers cricket team. This team is based in Dubai.
Helping Others
Avram Glazer has helped fund important projects. He helped create the Glazer Children’s Museum in Tampa, Florida. This museum is a fun place for kids to learn.
He and his wife, Jill, also supported Tulane University. They helped build the Glazer Family Club at Yulman Stadium. In 2013, Washington University in St. Louis honored him. He received the Distinguished Alumni award. He is also on the board of trustees there.
In 2023, Avram Glazer received the Sigma Alpha Mu Man Of The Year Award. He is also a member of the Board of the Glazer Vision Foundation.
Personal Life
Avram Glazer is married to Jill Henkin Glazer. Jill also went to Tulane University. She used to be on its board of trustees. Avram and Jill live in New Orleans.
