Awa Province (安房国, Awa-no kuni) was an old province of Japan. It was located in the area that is now Chiba Prefecture on the island of Honshū. People also knew it as Bōshū (房州) or Anshū (安州).
This province was found at the very tip of the Boso Peninsula (房総半島).
The Story of Awa Province

Awa Province was created a very long time ago. This happened during the reign of Empress Genshō. She was an empress who ruled Japan in the early 700s.
Later, in a time called the Meiji period, Japan went through big changes. The old provinces, like Awa, were changed into new areas. These new areas are what we now call prefectures. The maps of Japan were updated in the 1870s to show these new prefectures.
