Etymology Axelson Family

Axelson Point is a small piece of land that sticks out into the water, also known as a cape. It's located along the shore of the East Bay in Navarre, Florida. Sometimes, local people mistakenly call it Diana's Point, but nobody is quite sure why.

What is Axelson Point?

Axelson Point is a narrow strip of land. It extends less than 100 meters into the bay. This makes it a small but important part of the local geography. It helps shape the coastline of East Bay.

Naming the Point

The point is named after the Axelson Family. They were one of the first families to live permanently in Navarre. This family played a role in the early history of the area.

Why is it Important?

Axelson Point is important for a few reasons:

  • It was home to the Axelson family for many years.
  • It was one of the first places explorers landed in the area. This makes it a historic spot.
  • Some of the original Axelson family homes are still standing in Pensacola. However, the homes on Axelson Point itself are not the original ones.

Geography of Axelson Point

Axelson Point is located at the mouth of the East Lagoon. The East Lagoon is a river-like part of East Bay. Axelson Point, along with Miller Point, forms the entrance to this lagoon. This creates a unique natural gateway.
