Aydin Balayev Huseynaga oglu (Azerbaijani: Aydın Balayev Hüseynağa oğlu) was an important historian and ethnologist from Azerbaijan. He was born on November 19, 1956, and passed away on December 8, 2021, at the age of 65. An ethnologist is someone who studies different cultures and peoples.
Biography
Early Life and Education
Aydin Balayev was born in Baku, which was the capital of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic (Azerbaijan SSR) at the time. The Azerbaijan SSR was part of the Soviet Union.
In 1980, he finished his studies at the Department of History at Azerbaijan State University. He graduated with great honors. After that, in 1982, he started working at the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography. This institute is part of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
From 1983 to 1985, Balayev worked as a researcher at Moscow State University. He studied ethnography there. In 1985, he began his advanced studies, called doctoral studies, at the Ethnography Institute in Moscow. He earned his PhD in History in 1988. A PhD is a very high academic degree.
Career and Research
In 2001, Aydin Balayev completed another major research project in Baku. This project was about the Azerbaijani Independence Movement in 1917-1918. This movement was a time when Azerbaijan worked to become an independent country.
He also served as the Program Chair at the Center for National and International Studies. This role meant he helped lead research programs. He was also a member of the Academy of National Sciences of Azerbaijan. This is a group of top scientists and researchers in Azerbaijan.
Aydin Balayev passed away on December 8, 2021. He was 65 years old.
