Before 2002, Azuga was mostly known for its factories. But after that, the town changed into a resort. This was done to make the most of the beautiful mountain scenery of the Baiu Mountains. Soon after, the Sorica ski slope was officially approved by the International Ski Federation. Today, Azuga has many hotels and hostels for tourists. You can also find cheaper places to stay in local homes. Some old factories, like a beer factory and a glass factory, were taken down. Fun Things to Do in Azuga

Azuga is becoming a really popular place for skiing and other mountain activities. They are always improving the facilities for tourists.

Skiing and Snowboarding Adventures

  • Sorica Slope: This amazing ski slope is over 2,100 meters (about 1.3 miles) long! It drops 561 meters (about 1,840 feet) from top to bottom. It's great for both beginners and experienced skiers.
  • Cazacu Mountain Slopes: There are two slopes on Cazacu Mountain. One is 1,920 meters (about 1.2 miles) long with a drop of 530 meters. The other is shorter, about 400 meters (1,300 feet) long, and is perfect for beginners.

All the slopes have ski lifts to take you up the mountain. There's also a cool gondola lift that goes to the top of the Sorica slope. From there, you can choose which main slope you want to ski down. Sometimes, if you want to get to the Cazacu slope, you might need to go up a little bit more, maybe with a small ski lift.

During winter, it can be very windy at the top of the mountain. Because of this, the highest gondola station is built a bit below the very top. This helps prevent ice from building up, which could make it hard to start the lifts in the morning.

Summer Fun and Hiking Trails

In the summer, Azuga is a fantastic place for hiking. It's a great starting point for trips to other mountain towns like Predeal, Bușteni, or Sinaia. If you love biking, you'll enjoy the unpaved forest roads. You can ride along the Azuga River, which has small wooden artificial waterfalls. These waterfalls help add oxygen to the water, which is great for the many trout fish that live naturally in the river!
