Babbs Mill Lake is a special lake in Solihull, England. It's part of Kingfisher Country Park in the Kingshurst area. This lake isn't natural; people built it to help control floods from the nearby River Cole.

What is Babbs Mill Lake?

Babbs Mill Lake is a man-made lake. This means it was created by people, not by nature. Its main job is to act like a giant sponge. When the River Cole gets too full, the lake collects the extra water. This helps stop floods in the surrounding areas.

Babbs Mill Park and Nature

The lake gives its name to Babbs Mill Park. This park was created in 1977. It was made to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. A Silver Jubilee marks 25 years of a king or queen's rule.

In 2002, Babbs Mill Park became a Local Nature Reserve. This means it's a special place for wildlife. It's protected so that plants and animals can live there safely. It's also a great spot for people to enjoy nature.

Changes to the Park

In March 2016, a small part of the reserve was approved for building houses. This area was about seven percent of the total reserve.

Parkrun at the Lake

Since August 2019, Babbs Mill Lake has been a popular spot for a special event called parkrun. A parkrun is a free, weekly event. People can run or walk 5 kilometers (about 3.1 miles). It happens every Saturday morning at 9 AM. It's a fun way for people of all ages to get active outdoors.
