Baby Huey is a giant and innocent duckling from cartoons. He was created by Martin Taras for Paramount Pictures' Famous Studios. Baby Huey became a popular cartoon star in the 1950s. His first appearance was in a short film called Quack-a-Doodle-Doo in 1950.

Baby Huey's Early Cartoons

Baby Huey first appeared on screen in the Noveltoons short film Quack-a-Doodle-Doo. This film was shown in theaters on March 3, 1950. The voice for Baby Huey was done by Sid Raymond. He was an actor and comedian who also voiced other characters for Famous Studios. Eleven Baby Huey cartoons were made between 1951 and 1959.

Many of Huey's cartoons followed a similar pattern. He often wanted to play with other young ducks his age. He would get very excited to join their games. But because he was so big and clumsy, he would accidentally cause problems. This would make the other ducklings try to trick him into leaving.

Then, a hungry fox would usually show up. The fox first wanted to eat the smaller ducks. But when he saw Baby Huey, he thought Huey would be a much bigger meal! The fox would pretend to be Huey's friend. He would set traps, but they never worked on Huey. Sometimes, the traps would even backfire on the fox.

At first, Baby Huey didn't realize the fox was trying to trick him. But as the other ducks watched, Huey would figure out the truth. He would often say, "Hey, you! You're the fox! And I think you're trying to kill me!" Then, he would defeat the fox. Other times, the fox would just give up because Huey was too much trouble. In the end, the other ducklings would usually make up with Baby Huey. They would happily include him in their games.

Later, in the comic books, Baby Huey had a sidekick. This was his cousin, named Cousin Dimwit. Dimwit was a thin duck who wore a very big red sweater.

Comics and Later Shows

After his early cartoons, Baby Huey also appeared in comic books. Harvey Hits #60 was the first comic book from Harvey Comics to feature him.

The comic series Baby Huey, the Baby Giant started in 1956. It ran for many years, until 1972. There were also other comic series like Baby Huey and Papa and Baby Huey in Duckland.

Baby Huey's parents, Papa and Mama Duck, often had trouble managing their huge son. His great size and strength sometimes caused damage to their house or car. Papa Duck would often get hurt or worried about his job. Baby Huey usually didn't notice his father's worries.

Baby Huey's main friends in the comics were three small, identical ducklings. They looked a lot like Donald Duck's nephews. These triplets sometimes made fun of Huey for being clumsy. But they also relied on his super strength to help them out of trouble.

Other characters from the comics included Herman and Katnip and Buzzy the Funny Crow. Buzzy was always outsmarting a blue cat who tried to catch him.

Harvey Comics bought the rights to all of Famous Studios' characters in 1959. Baby Huey continued to appear in Harvey Comics until 1972. He wasn't seen much for almost 20 years after that. But he returned to comics in 1990.

Baby Huey was almost in the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He was planned to appear in a deleted scene.

In 1994, a new TV show called The Baby Huey Show was made. It aired for two seasons. Sid Raymond voiced Baby Huey again at first. Later, Joe Alaskey took over the voice role.

Baby Huey also starred in a live-action movie in 1999. It was called Baby Huey's Great Easter Adventure. In this movie, Stephen Furst voiced Baby Huey and also directed the film.

Even U.S. President Bill Clinton once compared himself to Baby Huey in 1993. He said, "I'm a lot like Baby Huey. I'm fat. I'm ugly. But if you push me down, I keep coming back."

Baby Huey has made cameo appearances in other cartoons too. He appeared in an episode of The Spooktacular New Adventures of Casper. He also showed up as a costume in Harvey Girls Forever.
