Exploring Bach's Location
Bach is found in the upper part of the Lech Valley. This area is known for its beautiful nature. Four different water streams flow through the town.
Rivers and Streams in Bach
The two main waterways are the Lech River and the Alperschonbach. The Lech River is part of the Tyrolean Lech Nature Park. There are also two smaller streams, the Modertalbach and the Sulzlbach. Bach is located about 1070 meters (3,510 feet) above sea level.
A Look at Bach's Past
The town of Bach has a long history. It was first written about in official papers in the year 1427.
Early Settlers and Workers
Many houses in Bach have old paintings called frescoes. These paintings remind us of workers from the Lech Valley who used to travel to other countries for work. Like other places in the Lech Valley, Bach was settled quite late. To get new land for farming, landowners would ask farmers to clear the land. These farmers would then keep the land under a special agreement.
Bach's Name and Government
Bach used to be under the control of the Ehrenberg court. Around the year 1500, it became part of the "lawyer Mitter Lechtal" area. By 1649, the towns in the Ehrenberg court were called parishes. Bach was part of the "parish Elbigenalp." Until 1854, Bach was often called Stockach. After that, the name Bach became the official name for the town.
