Bahira Abdulatif Yasin is an Iraqi writer, translator, and professor. She lives and works in Madrid, Spain. She is known for her important contributions to language and literature.

Her Life and Career

Bahira Abdulatif is a professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid. She teaches in the department that studies Arabic and Islamic cultures. She is an expert in Spanish language studies, which is called philology. Before moving to Spain, she also taught at the Faculty of Languages at the University of Baghdad in Iraq.

She moved to Madrid after the United Nations placed special rules, called sanctions, on Iraq. This happened after Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990. Since then, she has also taught at other universities in Spain. These include Complutense University of Madrid and University of Salamanca.

Her Books and Translations

Bahira Abdulatif is a talented translator. She won an award for translating the works of the famous Spanish poet Rafael Alberti into the Arabic language. She has also translated books by other well-known authors. These include Jorge Luis Borges, José Carlos Mainer, and José Antonio Maravall.

She also translated a poetry book by Ana Silva called Cuerpo adentro into Arabic. In 2003, she co-authored a book titled ... : Arab Woman, Islam, and Society.

Views on Iraq

Bahira Abdulatif has shared her thoughts on her home country, Iraq. She believes that before the 2003 invasion led by the United States, Iraq was more secular. This means the government and society were less influenced by religious rules. She felt that Iraq had "one of the most advanced legislation" among Arab nations at that time.
