History of Bainbridge

Bainbridge used to have a different name: "Bissells." There was a post office there called "Bissels" from 1826 until 1906.

The name Bainbridge comes from a brave naval hero. He was Commodore William Bainbridge, who was famous during the War of 1812.

Geography of Bainbridge

Bainbridge is located in the southwestern part of Geauga County. It's right in the middle of Bainbridge Township.

Roads and Travel

A big road called U.S. Route 422 goes through Bainbridge. It's a four-lane highway. You can drive east about 31 miles (50 km) to Warren or west about 25 miles (40 km) to downtown Cleveland.

You can get onto US 422 from Ohio State Route 306 in the center of Bainbridge. Route 306 goes north about 9 miles (14 km) to Chesterland. It also goes south about 5 miles (8 km) to Aurora.

The Bainbridge CDP covers a total area of about 9.0 square kilometers (3.5 sq mi). Most of this area is land, about 8.8 square kilometers (3.4 sq mi). A small part, about 0.2 square kilometers (0.08 sq mi), is water. This means about 2.09% of Bainbridge is water.
