History of Chesterland

Chesterland has an interesting past. It got its first post office in 1826. Back then, it was called "Chester Cross Roads." Later, in 1898, its name was changed to "Chesterland." The community was named after Chester, Massachusetts, a town far away.

Geography and Location

Chesterland is located in the northwestern part of Geauga County. It sits a bit southeast of the middle of Chester Township.

The main part of Chesterland is where two important roads meet. These roads are U.S. Route 322 and Ohio State Route 306. US-322 goes east for about 24 miles to Orwell, Ohio. It also goes west for about 19 miles to downtown Cleveland. State Route 306 heads north about 8 miles to Kirtland, Ohio. It goes south about 9 miles to Bainbridge. Many shops and businesses are found around this busy intersection.

Chesterland is also part of the Chagrin Valley area. This area includes towns and villages along the Chagrin River.
