In Quebec, it passes through areas like Packington, Quebec and Saint-Jean-de-la-Lande, Quebec. In New Brunswick, it flows through Madawaska County and Baker Brook, New Brunswick.

Where the River Starts

The Baker River North begins at a place called "Lake Pelletier." This small lake is about 0.1 kilometres (0.062 mi) wide and sits at an elevation of 323 metres (1,060 ft). You can find it in the municipality of Packington, Quebec.

The source of the river is located:

  • About 16.3 kilometres (10.1 mi) west of the border between Quebec and New Brunswick.
  • About 7.0 kilometres (4.3 mi) north of the northern tip of Lake Méruimticook. This lake stretches across the Quebec and New Brunswick border.
  • About 3.8 kilometres (2.4 mi) northwest of the village center of Packington, Quebec.

How the River Flows

From Lake Pelletier, the Baker River North travels for about 28.1 kilometres (17.5 mi). Here's how its journey unfolds:

  • For the first 3.7 kilometres (2.3 mi), it flows southeast. It follows the southwest side of the North 8th and 9th rank road until it reaches the Jerry Lake Road bridge.
  • Next, it continues for 6.9 kilometres (4.3 mi) to the southeast. This part of the river reaches the boundary of the municipality of Saint-Jean-de-la-Lande, Quebec.
  • Inside Saint-Jean-de-la-Lande, Quebec, it flows for another 6.0 kilometres (3.7 mi) (or 4.4 kilometres (2.7 mi) in a straight line) to the southeast. It passes the Lac Baker road, which is southwest of the village of Saint-Jean-de-la-Lande, Quebec.
  • Then, it goes 3.3 kilometres (2.1 mi) southeast to Main Street (which is also known as 8th and 9th South Road).
  • After that, it turns east for 0.5 kilometres (0.31 mi) until it meets "Little Baker Creek."
  • It continues east for 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) (or 1.1 kilometres (0.68 mi) in a straight line) until it reaches the border between Quebec and New Brunswick.
  • Finally, it flows for 6.2 kilometres (3.9 mi) (or 3.1 kilometres (1.9 mi) in a straight line) to the southeast. This last part of its journey is in Madawaska County in New Brunswick, until it joins another river.

Where the River Ends

The Baker River North joins the Baker River (New Brunswick) on its north bank. This meeting point is in Baker Brook, New Brunswick, within Madawaska County.

From this point, the Baker River (New Brunswick) flows southeast to the north shore of the Saint John River (Bay of Fundy). The Saint John River then travels through New Brunswick and eventually opens into the Bay of Fundy. The Bay of Fundy then connects to the Atlantic Ocean.
