The Ballon d'Or Féminin, also called the Women's Ballon d'Or, is a super important award in association football (soccer). It's given out by France Football magazine. This award celebrates the female player who played the very best during the past season.
About the Award
The Ballon d'Or Féminin was first given out in 2018. Ada Hegerberg from Norway was the very first player to win it.
Some players have been nominated many times. For example, Australian striker Sam Kerr and French defender Wendie Renard were nominated every year until 2023. Sam Kerr was always in the top 20 nominees. She was even in the top 7 until she got a knee injury in 2024.
In 2022, Barcelona team captain Alexia Putellas made history. She became the first player to win the award twice. Even better, she won it two years in a row! Her teammate, Aitana Bonmatí, also won the award twice in 2023 and 2024.
In 2023, Mary Earps achieved the highest rank ever for a goalkeeper. She finished in fifth place.
