The Ballon d'Or Féminin (which means "Women's Golden Ball" in French) is a super important award in association football. It is given out by France Football magazine. This award celebrates the best female football player from the past season. It's like a big trophy for the player who performed the best!
About the Award
The Ballon d'Or Féminin was first given out in 2018. Ada Hegerberg from Norway was the very first player to win this amazing award.
Some players have been nominated many times. For example, Australian striker Sam Kerr and French defender Wendie Renard were nominated every year until 2023. Sam Kerr was always in the top 20 nominees. She was even in the top 7 until she got an injury in January 2024.
In 2022, Barcelona captain Alexia Putellas made history. She became the first player to win the award twice. She also won it in two years in a row! Her teammate, Aitana Bonmatí, also achieved this. Aitana won the Ballon d'Or in both 2023 and 2024.
In 2023, Mary Earps achieved the highest rank ever for a goalkeeper. She placed fifth in the awards.
