Early Life and Football Dreams

Alexia Putellas was born on 4 February 1994. Her parents are Jaume Putellas Rota and Elisabet Segura Sabaté. She was born in Mollet del Vallès, a town near Barcelona. Alexia has a younger sister named Alba.

Alexia loved FC Barcelona from a young age. She would go with her father to watch matches at the Camp Nou. Her family were big fans of the club. Alexia looked up to male Barcelona players like Andrés Iniesta and Ronaldinho. She also admired female footballer Louisa Nécib.

Alexia came from a family who played basketball. But she also tried roller hockey, tennis, and folk dance. She started playing football at school. At seven years old, she joined a club. Her mother allowed her to join a team if she stopped playing at school. Alexia felt this showed how some people thought girls shouldn't play football. But her family always supported her dream.

Alexia's first club was a boys' team, CF Mollet UE. She didn't like the atmosphere there. Soon after, she joined the girls' team at Sabadell.

Club Career Highlights

Youth Teams: Learning the Game

Sabadell: Starting Young (2001–2005)

Alexia joined Sabadell when she was seven. Her family lied about her age so she could join, as the team usually took players aged eight and older. Here, she played with future Barcelona teammates Vicky Losada and Marta Corredera. Even though she was younger, Alexia became one of the team captains. She was smaller than other players and couldn't shoot from far away, which made her frustrated.

Barcelona Youth: A Brief Stop (2005–2006)

In 2005, Alexia spent a year with a Barcelona youth team. This was her dream club. She won youth titles with them. But she had to leave when the women's football system changed. There was no team for her age group. Many players, including Alexia, then joined Espanyol.

Espanyol: Growing Stronger (2006–2011)

Alexia joined Espanyol's girls' team at age twelve. At that time, Espanyol was a very strong team in Spanish women's football. She played alongside Marta Torrejón and Andrea Pereira, who also later joined Barcelona. In 2007, her Espanyol team won the youth Copa Catalunya.
