The Ballyfinboy River is a cool river in Ireland that starts near Moneygall in County Offaly. It flows mostly northwest until it reaches Lough Derg at Drominagh. This river actually helps form part of the border between County Tipperary and County Offaly!

As the Ballyfinboy River travels, it passes through the towns of Cloughjordan and Borrisokane. Just west of Borrisokane, you can spot the ruins of Ballyfinboy Castle. This old tower house even has a special carving called a Sheela na gig!

Bridges Along the Ballyfinboy River

Many bridges cross the Ballyfinboy River, helping people and cars get around. Each bridge has its own unique story or design.

Knockearl Bridge

The Knockearl Bridge carries the R491 road. It connects County Offaly on the south side of the river to Cloughjordan on the north side in County Tipperary.

Modreeny Bridge

An old and fancy stone bridge with cool cast iron railings crosses the river near Modreeny. This bridge leads to the Modreeny estate.

Borrisokane Town Park Bridges

In Borrisokane town park, there are modern bridges just for people walking. These bridges connect the two parts of the park, which are separated by the river.

Ballinderry Bridge

The R493 road crosses the river on the Ballinderry Bridge. It's a pretty bridge with five arches that are quite low to the water.

Drominagh Demesne Toll Bridge

The Drominagh Demesne Toll Bridge has three arches and was built a long time ago in 1776. It was built by the landowner. You can still see the small shelter where the person who collected tolls used to sit!

Fish in the Ballyfinboy River

Have you ever wondered what kind of fish live in the river? In September 2012, experts from Inland Fisheries Ireland checked out the river near Ballinderry. They used a special electric fishing method to see what fish were there. They found 26 Brown trout and 15 Salmon in that part of the river! This shows the river is a good home for these fish.
