Discovering Ballyliffin Golf Club's Past

How Ballyliffin Golf Club Began

Ballyliffin Golf Club first opened its doors in 1947. Since then, it has become a very important place for golf in Ireland. The club has hosted many big golf events over the years.

Major Tournaments Hosted Here

One of the first big tournaments Ballyliffin hosted was the Ladies Irish Open in 1998. This was a great chance for top female golfers to play on its courses.

The club also famously hosted the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open in 2018. This is a very important tournament on the European golf tour. Many famous golfers came to play at Ballyliffin.

Setting New Course Records

A "course record" is the lowest score ever made by a golfer on a specific course. At Ballyliffin, the record on the Glashedy Links course has been broken a few times.

In 2002, Jean-François Lucquin set a record with a score of 67. Later, in 2006, Rory McIlroy, a very famous golfer, shot an even lower score of 66.

During the 2018 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, the record was broken again! Three golfers all shot an incredible score of 65. These players were Erik van Rooyen, Andy Sullivan, and Jorge Campillo. They now share the honor of holding the course record on the Glashedy Links.
