This mango variety is very important in Andhra Pradesh. It covers about 70% of all the land used for growing mangoes in the state. On May 3, 2017, Banganapalle mangoes received a special status. They were registered as a geographical indication. This means they are known for coming from a specific place and having unique qualities.
Banganapalle mangoes are also grown in other parts of India and Pakistan. The fruit is shaped like an oval, about 20 centimeters long. It has yellow flesh and a thin, smooth yellow skin. The flesh is firm and meaty. It is very sweet and does not have much fiber. This mango is very popular in Andhra Pradesh. It is a late-season mango, which means it ripens later in the year.
