The Bantam River is a stream in northwest Connecticut, United States. It flows south and is made of two main parts. These two parts flow into and out of Bantam Lake. People call these sections the Bantam Lake Inlet and the Bantam Lake Outlet.

The two parts of the river enter and leave Bantam Lake about 2,800 feet (850 m) (or 853 meters) apart. This is on the lake's north side. The river collects water from a large area. This area is more than 25,000 acres (10,000 ha) (about 101 square kilometers). It covers parts of the towns of Goshen, Litchfield, Morris, and Washington.

What is the Bantam River?

The Bantam River is about 18 miles (29 km) (or 29 kilometers) long in total. It starts in a marshy area. This marsh is north of the Litchfield Reservoir. The river then flows into the Shepaug River.

Where Does the Bantam River Start and End?

The river begins in a marsh near the Litchfield Reservoir. This is its "source." It then travels through several towns. Finally, it flows into the Shepaug River. This is where it "empties" or ends its journey. The Bantam River also forms the southern edge of Mount Tom State Park.
