Barbara Dorf (1933–2016) was a British artist. She was well-known for her paintings of buildings and city scenes.
Biography
Barbara Dorf was born in London, England, in 1933. She grew up there and loved art from a young age.
She went to two famous art schools in London. First, she studied at the Central School of Art and Crafts. Then, she continued her art education at the Slade School of Fine Art until 1962.
Barbara was a talented painter. She often painted buildings and city views. She used different art materials like oil paints, watercolors, and charcoal for her drawings.
Besides creating her own art, Barbara also taught others. She shared her knowledge at the Ruskin School of Drawing. She also taught at Oxford Brookes University.
Her artwork was shown in many places. She regularly exhibited her paintings at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. This is a very important place for artists to show their work. She also exhibited with the New English Art Club.
Barbara had many solo art shows. Starting in 1978, she had several shows at the Michael Parkin Gallery. She also had shows at the Montpelier Sandelson Gallery in 1981. Later, she had many exhibitions at the Mass Gallery from 1986 onwards. In 1993, her work was part of a show with two other artists at the Jerram Gallery.
You can find Barbara Dorf's art in important collections. The British Museum has some of her works. Also, two colleges at Oxford University, Lady Margaret Hall and St Edmund Hall, own her art.
Barbara Dorf passed away in 2016. Her artistic legacy continues to inspire.
