Barbara Jo Lawrence (born February 24, 1930 – died November 13, 2013) was an American actress. She was also a model and later worked as a real estate agent. She was known for her roles in movies like Oklahoma! and Margie.

Early Life

Barbara Lawrence was born in Carnegie, Oklahoma. Her parents were Morris and Bernice Lawrence. When she was just three years old, she won a "Tiny Tot" beauty contest.

Becoming an Actress

Barbara Lawrence started her career as a model for child photographers. Her first movie was Diamond Horseshoe in 1945. A year later, she played a lively character named Maryville in the movie Margie. This role helped her become more famous.

She also appeared in the adventure film Captain from Castile (1947) with Tyrone Power. While studying at UCLA, she caught the eye of movie talent scouts. Soon, she was in many movies for 20th Century-Fox. Some of these included A Letter to Three Wives and Thieves' Highway.

In the early 1950s, she made films for Universal Studios. These included Peggy and Here Come the Nelsons. She also starred in the romantic comedy Paris Model (1953).

Big Roles and TV Shows

Later, Barbara Lawrence moved to MGM studios. She acted in the 3D movie Arena (1953). She also appeared in Her Twelve Men.

One of her most famous roles was Gertie Cummings in the movie Oklahoma!. In this film, she had a memorable fight scene with Gloria Grahame. In 1957, she starred in the science fiction movie Kronos. Even though critics didn't love it at first, this movie later became a favorite for its creative story and special effects.

From 1958 to 1962, Barbara Lawrence made several guest appearances on TV shows. She was on the CBS-TV series Perry Mason four times. She also appeared in Cimarron City (TV series) and the popular Western show Bonanza.

Later Life and Legacy

Barbara Lawrence was married three times and had four children.

She passed away on November 13, 2013, at the age of 83. Her death was caused by kidney failure.

Barbara Lawrence has a special star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It is located at 1735 Vine Street. Her star was given to her on February 8, 1960, to honor her work in television.
