Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus facts for kids

Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus is an exciting computer-animated princess movie released in 2005. It's the sixth film in the popular Barbie movie series. This film tells a completely new story, different from earlier Barbie movies that were based on classic tales. The talented voice actress Kelly Sheridan plays the main character, Princess Annika.

The singer Brie Larson recorded a special song for this movie called "Hope Has Wings." You can even find its music video as a bonus feature on the DVD!

To celebrate the movie, a line of toys was created. These included dolls of Princess Annika, Aiden, Rayla the Cloud Queen, and Princess Brietta.

Story of the Magic of Pegasus

Princess Annika loves to ice skate, but her parents are very protective. On her birthday, she sneaks out to skate and even brings home a cute polar bear cub named Shiver! Because of this, her parents forbid her from skating ever again.

Annika feels annoyed and secretly goes to a skating festival in the village that night. Suddenly, a powerful sorcerer named Wenlock appears. He demands that Annika marry him! Her parents arrive and try to stop Wenlock. He just laughs and reminds them about their "other daughter." When Annika refuses to marry him, Wenlock turns everyone in the village, including her parents, into stone.

Annika is saved by a beautiful winged horse named Brietta. Wenlock warns Annika that she has only three days to marry him, or the spell will last forever.

Brietta takes Annika to the amazing Cloud Kingdom, ruled by Queen Rayla. There, Annika learns a big secret: Brietta is actually her older sister! Wenlock had turned Brietta into a pegasus when she refused to marry him years ago. This explains why Annika's parents were so protective of her. The Cloud Queen tells Annika that only a "Wand of Light" can defeat Wenlock. This special wand needs three things: a measure of courage, a ring of love, and a gem of ice lit by hope's eternal flame. Even though Brietta has tried before and failed, Annika promises they will build the wand together.

Annika, Brietta, and Shiver travel to the Forbidden Forest. There, they meet a blacksmith named Aidan. Shiver accidentally falls into a giant's cooking pot! Annika uses her hair ribbon to help them escape. This ribbon, which is Annika's exact height, becomes the "measure of courage" and turns into a staff for the Wand of Light.

After getting a map from a gem dealer named Ferris, the group finds a cave full of sparkling ice gems. Annika and Aidan each take one. Aidan shares his story, admitting he ran away from home after losing his parents' money gambling. He took an extra gem to give to his parents, hoping they would forgive him. Brietta then offers her tiara to be the "ring of love." With all three items, Aidan skillfully crafts the "Wand of Light." Annika uses the wand, and it transforms Brietta back into her human form!

On their way back to the Cloud Kingdom, Wenlock chases Annika and Brietta. Brietta gets hurt and falls unconscious. Annika, filled with anger, tries to use the wand to destroy Wenlock, but it doesn't work. With no other choice, she agrees to marry him. But Wenlock refuses, calling her annoying, just like his previous wives, whom he had turned into trolls. He takes the wand and buries Annika in an avalanche.

Aidan quickly helps dig Annika out. After she recovers, the group sneaks into Wenlock's palace. Annika finds the wand, but it's broken, and the gem falls into the sea. Aidan bravely offers his gem as a replacement. Annika realizes the wand isn't for revenge. Instead, she uses it to break all of Wenlock's spells for the love of her family and her people. Wenlock loses his powers, his former wives return to their true forms, and the spell on Annika's kingdom is broken.

Annika and Brietta are happily reunited with their parents. Aidan also makes up with his father. In the Cloud Kingdom, Annika and Aidan skate together. The Cloud Queen then lifts the Wand of Light into the sky, where it becomes a beautiful star.

Main Characters

• Barbie as Princess Annika - She is a strong and determined princess who loves ice skating. She often wears light purple dresses. At first, Annika doesn't understand why her parents are so protective. But after learning about Brietta's past, she realizes her mistake and works to fix things.
• Summer as Princess Brietta - Annika's older sister. Wenlock turned her into a pegasus on her birthday because she wouldn't marry him. Her dress is always pink. Even as a pegasus, she can see her human self when she looks in a mirror.
• Wenlock - A very powerful sorcerer and the main bad guy. He has been married three times before, but he turned his past wives into trolls to be his servants. He searches for the prettiest girl to marry and decides Annika is the one. He flies around on a griffin.
• Ken as Aidan - A blacksmith. He lost all the money his parents gave him in a game. Ashamed, he hides in the Forbidden Forest until he meets Annika. Annika's problems inspire him, and he decides to help her create the Wand of Light and save her kingdom.
• Shiver - A cute polar bear cub who becomes friends with Annika while she's ice skating. Shiver really likes anything sparkly!
• Rayla, the Cloud Queen - The kind ruler of the Cloud Kingdom. This is where Brietta hid after Wenlock turned her into a pegasus.
• Rose, Blush, and Lilac - Three small girls who add colors to the clouds every morning and evening. Rose makes the clouds pink, Blush makes them yellow, and Lilac makes them purple. They are good friends with Brietta.
• Ollie - A large, green giant who almost turns Annika and Shiver into stew!
• Ferris - A tricky and greedy thief who runs a trading business. He knows Aidan and gives Annika and Aidan a map to find a gem for the Wand of Light. Later, Wenlock turns him into a doormat for telling him where Annika and Aidan were. It's not shown if he ever gets turned back.
