Books by Russ Roberts
Russ Roberts writes books that explain economic ideas in new ways. He often uses stories to make complex topics easier to understand.
The Invisible Heart
In 2001, he published a novel called The Invisible Heart: An Economic Romance. This book shares economic ideas through conversations. Two teachers at a high school discuss different views on how markets work. One teacher believes in free markets. The other wants more government rules to control businesses.
The Price of Everything
His 2008 novel is titled The Price of Everything: A Parable of Possibility and Prosperity. This story follows a university student and tennis player named Ramon Fernandez. Ramon's mother came to the U.S. from Cuba.
The book uses conversations to explore ideas like the price system. It also talks about how things can organize themselves without central planning.
How Adam Smith Can Change Your Life
In 2014, Roberts wrote How Adam Smith Can Change Your Life: An Unexpected Guide to Human Nature and Happiness. This book looks at Adam Smith in a different way. Smith is famous for The Wealth of Nations.
However, Roberts's book focuses on Smith's earlier work. It explores The Theory of Moral Sentiments. This book is about human nature and how people make moral choices.
Economic Beliefs
Russ Roberts describes himself as a classical liberal. This means he believes in limited government. He also thinks people should take personal responsibility for their lives. He sees himself as a type of libertarian.
Roberts generally does not agree with Keynesian economics. This economic idea suggests that government spending can boost the economy. Roberts believes that "spending money unwisely is not the way to get wealthy." He thinks that claims by politicians about how many jobs a policy will create are often not reliable. He encourages people to be careful about what they believe from economic studies.
