Bardrainney is a neighbourhood in Port Glasgow, Scotland. It is part of the Inverclyde district. This area is mostly made up of homes built in the 1950s by the local council. You can find Bardrainney on the hills above Port Glasgow, just south of the A761 road that goes to Kilmacolm.
The name Bardrainney might come from the Gaelic language. It could mean "hill of thorns."
History of Bardrainney
Bardrainney gets its name from an old farm that used to be in this area. The houses you see today were built on the fields that once belonged to this farm. The original farm buildings are no longer there.
However, the farm buildings were once near where Alexander Dalzell lived. He was a "factor," which means he managed land and money for the Earls of Glencairn. His house was on one of the highest spots in the area.
Bardrainney Today
Today, Bardrainney is a quiet residential area. It offers views over Port Glasgow and the surrounding countryside. The neighbourhood has a mix of different types of houses.
