Barkha Dutt is a well-known Indian television journalist and author. She has worked as a reporter and news anchor for major news channels like NDTV and Tiranga TV. Currently, she runs her own digital news channel called 'MoJo Story'.
Dutt was a key part of NDTV's team for 21 years. She became famous for her brave reporting from the front lines during the Kargil Conflict in 1999. This was a conflict between India and Pakistan. Barkha Dutt has won many awards both in India and internationally. One of her biggest awards is the Padma Shri, which is India's fourth highest civilian honor.

Early Life and Family
Barkha Dutt was born in New Delhi, India. Her father, S. P. Dutt, worked for Air India. Her mother, Prabha Dutt, was a famous journalist for the Hindustan Times. Barkha says her mother taught her a lot about journalism. Her mother was one of the first women journalists in India. Barkha also has a younger sister, Bahar Dutt, who is also a television journalist.
Education and Career Beginnings
Barkha Dutt studied English literature at St. Stephen's College, Delhi. After that, she earned a Master's degree in Mass Communications from Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi. She started her journalism career at NDTV. She later became the head of the English news section there.
She also got another Master's degree in journalism from Columbia University in New York. She received a special scholarship to help her study there.
Reporting Major Events
Barkha Dutt became very well-known for her reporting during the Kargil War in 1999. She even interviewed Captain Vikram Batra during this time. Since then, she has reported on many important events. These include conflicts in places like Kashmir, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
She covered major events like the 2008 Mumbai attacks, reporting live from the scene. During the COVID-19 Migration Crisis, she traveled across North India. She showed the world the difficulties faced by many migrant workers.
After 21 years at NDTV, Barkha Dutt left in January 2017. She has also written articles for big international newspapers, such as The Washington Post.
Awards and Recognitions
Barkha Dutt's Sunday talk show, We the People, has won many awards. It won the Indian Television Academy award for Best Talk Show five years in a row.

- She received the C H Mohammed Koya National Journalism Award in 2009.

In 2008, the Indian government gave her the Padma Shri, a high civilian honor. This was for her reporting on the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami.
She has been recognized globally for her leadership. The World Economic Forum named her a "Global Leader of Tomorrow" twice (in 2001 and 2008). In 2005, she was listed among 50 young Indians making a big impact on society.
In 2010, she became a member of India's National Integration Council. She also serves on the International Advisory Council of the Asia Society. In 2000, she received the Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Women Mediapersons.
