History of Barnarp Church

How Old is the Church?

The oldest parts of Barnarp Church were built a very long time ago. They date back to the 13th century. This means the church is over 700 years old! It was first built in a style called Romanesque.

Changes Over Time

The church has changed its shape over the centuries. In the years 1686 and 1687, two new sections were added. These additions made the church look like a Greek cross from above. A Greek cross has four arms of equal length.

Inside the Church

Baroque Style Decorations

The inside of Barnarp Church is decorated in a style called Baroque. This style was popular in the late 17th and mid-18th centuries. Baroque art often features lots of detail, rich colors, and dramatic scenes.

Painted Ceilings

One of the most interesting parts of the church's interior is its wooden ceilings. In 1730, an artist named Johann Kinnerus (who lived from 1705 to 1759) painted them. He decorated the ceilings with many scenes from the Bible. These paintings tell stories from religious texts.
