What is Barnhill Like?
Barnhill is found in the north-east part of Broughty Ferry. It stretches all the way to the city border between Dundee and Angus. The area is next to new housing areas like Balgillo Park. It also borders the town of Monifieth at North Balmossie Street. Barnhill has both private homes and council-owned houses.

The main place for shopping in Barnhill is the Campfield Shopping Square. Here you can find a post office and a pub called The Barn. There are also stores like Co-Operative Food and Iceland. Barnhill Cemetery is also located in this area.
A Bit of History
Long ago, Barnhill was home to the Dundee Convalescent Home. This was a place where people could recover after being sick. It was part of the Dundee Royal Infirmary. The money to build it came from a kind person named Sir David Baxter. The Convalescent Home was taken down in 1971. Today, the land is used for homes on Fettercairn Drive and Stracathro Terrace.
Schools in Barnhill
Barnhill Primary School is the main school for younger students in the area. While Monifieth High School is very close, most students from Barnhill will go to Grove Academy. This is because Grove Academy is managed by Dundee City Council, which also runs Barnhill Primary.
Getting Around Barnhill
Barnhill is about a 10 to 15-minute walk from the centre of Broughty Ferry. If you prefer to ride, Strathtay and Xplore Dundee buses offer regular services. These buses can take you to Broughty Ferry and Dundee City Centre.
Train Travel
Barnhill once had its own railway station. This station was on the Dundee and Forfar Direct Line, which is now closed. Today, Balmossie railway station is close to Barnhill. It is part of the Edinburgh to Aberdeen line. However, Balmossie station is actually located just inside the nearby town of Monifieth.
