Barra del Chuy is a fun beach resort in Rocha Department, located in southeastern Uruguay. Its name means "Mouth of Chuy" because it's where the Chuy stream meets the ocean. This resort is the very last one along Uruguay's coast before you reach Brazil. The Chuy stream forms a natural border between the two countries.

Where is Barra del Chuy?
Barra del Chuy sits right on the Atlantic Ocean coast. You can find it about 8 kilometers (5 miles) southeast of Route 9. It's also just 6 kilometers (about 4 miles) before the town of Chuy. To its southwest, you'll find another resort called Puimayen.
A Look at the Past
In the summer of 1994, something interesting happened here. The ocean waters in a large area of the South Atlantic started to get warmer. This warming affected the yellow cold-water clams living along 21 kilometers (13 miles) of the beach. Scientists noticed this change in the ocean, which they called the "South Atlantic blob." This area had warmed by about 2°C (3.6°F) over 100 years.
How Many People Live Here?
In 2011, Barra del Chuy had 370 people living there all the time. There were also 1,021 homes in the area.
