Barry Ryan Enright (born March 30, 1986) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He is currently a pitching coach for the Los Angeles Angels in Major League Baseball (MLB). Barry played in MLB for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Enright went to St. Mary's High School in Stockton, California. He then attended Pepperdine University. He also played baseball for the Great Britain team in international games. This included the 2019 European Baseball Championship. Barry Enright is also a professional golfer. He won his first professional golf tournament, the TPC Champions Classic. He beat Sam Triplett in a six-hole playoff.

Early Life and College Baseball

Barry Enright grew up in Stockton, California. He went to St. Mary's High School there. After high school, he attended Pepperdine University. At Pepperdine, he played college baseball for the Pepperdine Waves.

In his first year at Pepperdine in 2005, he had a great record. He won 10 games and lost only 1. He started 18 games as a pitcher. The next year, 2006, he won 13 games and lost 2. He started 20 games that season. After the 2006 season, he played summer baseball. He joined the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod Baseball League. In 2007, his final college year, he won 12 games and lost 5. He started 18 games and had a very low earned run average (ERA) of 1.99.

Professional Baseball Career

Playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks chose Barry Enright in the second round of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft. He started his professional career in 2007. He played for three different minor league teams that year. These teams were the Yakima Bears, the South Bend Silver Hawks, and the Visalia Oaks. He pitched 15 innings and did not allow any earned runs. He also struck out 17 batters.

In 2008, he played for the Visalia Oaks again. He won 12 games and lost 8. In 2009, he pitched for the Mobile Bay Bears. He won 10 games and lost 9. He started 27 games for them. Enright began the 2010 season with the Mobile Bay Bears. He had a record of 4 wins and 1 loss. He started 14 games before being called up to the major leagues.

In 2011, while pitching for the Reno Aces, something exciting happened. Enright threw a pitch behind Josh Donaldson. Donaldson had hit a home run off Enright earlier in the game. Both players were quickly ejected from the game. The benches and bullpens cleared, meaning players from both teams came onto the field.

Playing for the Los Angeles Angels

On July 24, 2012, Enright was traded to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. On April 30, 2013, Enright pitched in a very long game. He gave up a two-run home run to Oakland Athletics player Brandon Moss. This home run ended the game in the nineteenth inning. It was the longest game in Angels history. The game lasted over six and a half hours.

Enright was later moved off the Angels' main roster on May 16, 2013. He became a free agent on November 4, 2013.

Later Playing Career

Enright signed a minor league deal with the Philadelphia Phillies on January 24, 2014. He was released in July after pitching in 19 games for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. He then signed a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 28. He played in 7 games for the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes. The Dodgers released him on April 5, 2015. On May 6, 2015, Enright signed with the Toros de Tijuana in the Mexican League.

On January 24, 2017, Enright signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres. On May 7, 2017, he was traded to the Colorado Rockies. He played in 12 games for the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes. He became a free agent on November 6.

On February 18, 2018, Enright signed with the Tigres de Quintana Roo in the Mexican Baseball League. On July 16, he signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks again. He played in 8 games for their minor league teams. Enright became a free agent on November 2.

International Baseball

Barry Enright was chosen to play for the Great Britain national baseball team. He played for them in the 2019 European Baseball Championship.

Coaching Career

Minor League Coaching

Enright announced he was retiring from playing baseball on January 9, 2019. After that, he started working as a pitching coach. He became the pitching coach for the Hillsboro Hops. This team is a minor league team for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Major League Coaching

On November 30, 2021, Enright joined the Arizona Diamondbacks' major league staff. He worked as the assistant major league pitching coach. He also helped coordinate pitching for their minor league teams.

On November 21, 2023, Enright was hired by the Los Angeles Angels. He became the pitching coach for the Angels. He works under manager Ron Washington.

Golfing Career

As of 2020, Barry Enright also plays professional golf. He played golf when he was at Pepperdine University. He started playing golf again in late 2019. In May 2020, Enright won a professional golf tournament. He beat other pro golfers at the TPC Champions Classic in Scottsdale, Arizona.
