Barry Owen Somerset Maxwell, 12th Baron Farnham (born 7 July 1931 – died 22 March 2001) was an important British noble. He held the title of peer and baron.

He was the son of The Honourable Somerset Arthur Maxwell. His grandfather was the 11th Baron Farnham.

Barry Maxwell was a respected member of the British nobility. He inherited his titles from his family. He was known for his leadership roles in various organizations.

Early Life and Education

Barry Maxwell went to Eton, a famous school in England. Later, he studied at Harvard Business School in the United States. When his grandfather passed away, Barry became the 12th Baron Farnham. He also inherited the title of 15th Baronet of his family.

A Life of Service

Lord Farnham was a high-ranking member of an organization called the freemasons. He held many important leadership positions within the United Grand Lodge of England.

Important Roles in Freemasonry

He served as Senior Grand Warden from 1977 to 1978. He was Assistant Grand Master from 1982 to 1989. Then he became Deputy Grand Master from 1989 to 1991. Finally, he was Pro Grand Master from 1991 until his death in 2001. He was planning to retire around his 70th birthday, but he passed away a few months before. After his death, his brother, Simon Kenlis Maxwell, became the 13th Baron Farnham.

The Farnham Estate

The Farnham Estate Hotel is now a well-known hotel. It was once the main family home of the Farnham family. The original building was designed around 1780 by James Wyatt for the 1st Earl of Farnham. Lady Farnham later sold the estate to a local business person, which allowed it to be turned into a hotel.
