Bartaman Patrika is a well-known daily newspaper published in Bengali. It comes from Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Bartaman Pvt. Ltd. publishes this newspaper every day. Besides the Kolkata edition, Bartaman also has three other editions. These are printed daily in Siliguri, Bardhaman, and Midnapore. Bartaman is the second most widely read Bengali newspaper in West Bengal.
How Bartaman Patrika Started
The newspaper was started on December 7, 1984. It was founded by Barun Sengupta. He used to be a journalist for another newspaper called Anandabazar Patrika. Barun Sengupta passed away on June 19, 2008, in Kolkata.
For a while, Bartaman Patrika was known for its strong views. It often disagreed with the Left Front government at that time. This means it often published articles that were critical of the government's actions.

Bartaman Patrika has also moved into the digital world. Since April 2002, you can read an online version of the newspaper. In 2006, Bartaman launched its own mobile app. This made it even easier for people to read the news on their phones. In 2022, Bartaman also started publishing a daily newspaper in Hindi. It is called Bartaman Patrika as well.
Who Bartaman Patrika Competes With
Bartaman has a main competitor. This is Anandabazar Patrika, which has been published since 1922. Bartaman is the second most popular newspaper in West Bengal. This is based on how many people read it and how many copies are sold. Its daily circulation, which is the number of copies printed and distributed, is about 60% of Anandabazar Patrika's circulation.
