History of Barton
Barton was started in 1887. It was built at a meeting point on the Great Northern Railway. This railway was very important for travel and trade back then.
The town was first called Denney. On June 13, 1893, its name was changed to Barton. This change was made by the Postmaster, James A. Tyvand.
Barton officially became an incorporated town in 1906. This means it gained its own local government. The town grew and reached its largest population of 202 people in 1910.
Over time, the population of Barton became smaller. By 1980, only 38 people lived there. In 1997, Barton was disincorporated. This means it no longer had its own local government.
