Basham is a small, unincorporated community in the western part of Morgan County, Alabama, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live together, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's governed by the county. Basham is located just south of Decatur, which is the main city in Morgan County.
A Glimpse into Basham's Past
This community was first known as Basham's Gap. It was settled by a person named James H. Basham around the year 1818.
For many years, Basham had its own post office. It first operated under the name Basham's Gap from 1847 until 1895. After that, it was simply called Basham from 1895 until it closed in 1907.
