The Basilica of Saint Mary of Coro is a beautiful and old church in San Sebastián, Spain. It was finished in 1774. This church is a Roman Catholic parish church and also a minor basilica.

It is located in the "Parte Vieja," which means "Old Town," of San Sebastián. This city is in the Basque Country region of Spain. The church is famous for its Baroque style of architecture. This means it has lots of fancy decorations, curves, and dramatic details.

Inside the Basilica

The main part of the church, called the nave, is very large. It measures about 48 meters long and 33 meters wide. Imagine a space big enough for many people!

This huge area is divided into three smaller sections, or naves. These sections are supported by strong pillars. There are six main pillars, and the walls also have pillars that help hold up the roof. These octagonal pillars are very tall, reaching about 15 meters high.

Above the center of the church, there is a large dome. This dome is incredibly high, reaching 27 meters! That's like a nine-story building inside the church. At one end of the main space, there are other rooms. These rooms are used by the church for daily services, storage, and other needs.

Outside the Basilica

The main entrance of the Basilica of Saint Mary of Coro is very impressive. It is located between two tall towers. The entrance looks like a giant, decorated wall, similar to an altarpiece. An altarpiece is a decorated screen or panel behind an altar in a church.

This entrance features a detailed statue of Saint Sebastian. He is an important saint for the city of San Sebastián. You can also see symbols of the Pope on the entrance. These symbols show that the church has the special status of a "minor basilica." This is an honor given by the Pope.

At the very top of the building, you can see the shield of the city of San Sebastián. It proudly sits there, crowning the whole structure.
