Bay of Arauco facts for kids
The Bay of Arauco (also known as Bahia de Araucan) is a large bay found on the coast of the Arauco Province in the Bío Bío Region of Chile. This beautiful bay is surrounded by the Nahuelbuta Range mountains to the east. To the west, you'll find Santa Maria Island, and further northwest is the vast Pacific Ocean.
The Bay of Arauco is located south and west of the Bay of Concepción. It is also north of the city of Arauco. The important Bio Bio River flows into the northern part of the bay, about 10 kilometers (6 miles) west of the city of Concepción. Along the shores of the bay, you can find the cities of Lota, Coronel, and Arauco.
