Journey of the Bayfield River
The Bayfield River starts its journey just south of a place called Dublin. This is in Perth County. It begins where two smaller streams, the Cooke Drain and the Liffey Ditch, join together.
River's Path Through Towns
Right away, the river flows west under Perth County Road 180. It then picks up water from the McGrath Drain. The river continues to flow towards the west-northwest. It is joined by the Tyndall Drain and then the Silver Creek. Silver Creek joins the river near Egmondville. Egmondville is now part of Seaforth in Huron East.
The river keeps flowing west-northwest. It takes in water from the Broadfoot Drain, Carnochan Drain, and Helgrammite Creek. Then, it passes under Ontario Highway 4. This is between the town of Clinton to the north and Vanastra to the south.
Final Stretch to Lake Huron
After this, the river turns southwest. It is joined by Tricks Creek. Then, it heads south and takes in Wiltse Creek and the Bannockburn River. The river then makes a sharp turn west. This is just north of the town of Varna in Bluewater.
Finally, the Bayfield River is joined by Middletons Creek and Brandt Creek. It then passes under Ontario Highway 21. Soon after, it reaches its mouth at Lake Huron in the town of Bayfield.
