The name Bayou Goula comes from an old Native American tribe. This tribe, called the Bayagoula, used to live in this area. Their name means "river people" in their language. This makes a lot of sense because Bayou Goula is right by a big river!

Bayou Goula is located in the eastern part of Iberville Parish, Louisiana. It sits on the west side of the mighty Mississippi River.
The community is about 3.5 miles (5.6 kilometers) north of White Castle. It's also about 7 miles (11 kilometers) southeast of Plaquemine, which is the main town of the parish.
Bayou Goula covers an area of about 7.5 square kilometers (2.9 square miles). Most of this area is land, but a good part of it, about 1.2 square kilometers (0.45 square miles), is water from the Mississippi River.
